Many of Guam’s children have heard their parents’ admonition to make sure they dry their hair before going to bed.

In the legend that follows, we learn how one girl who did not dry her hair before going to bed, woke up the next morning with her appearance changed.

A long, long time ago, a little girl about the age of 10 asked her mother if she could take a bath. Seeing as how it was already getting late, her mother told her not to do it. Her mother told her daughter she would get sick if she went to bed with her hair still wet.

The girl ignored her mother and took a bath anyway. So, her hair became very wet, and she was unable to get it completely dry before heading off to bed for the night. The next morning, when the girl awakened, she was horrified to find that she now had a crooked finger and a flat nose.

Since that time, the children of Guam have been warned not to go to bed with wet hair.
