Påle’ Duenas was the second ever CHamoru Catholic priest and the first to be ordained on Guam.

During World War II, with the deportation of all the non-CHamoru priests by the Japanese, Påle’ Duenas assumed leadership of the Catholic Church of Guam, during one of the most traumatic moments in recent island history.

Påle’ Duenas was an icon of strength and hope during the Japanese occupation, encouraging the CHamoru people to focus on their faith and family.

Påle’ Duenas was executed by the Japanese in the closing weeks of the Japanese occupation.
