Last week Julian and Dottie Briola donated several dozen Marine Corps newspapers from World War II to the Guam Museum and requested help in tracking down some of the CHamorus who are mentioned in the wartime articles. In late 1944 these newspapers such as the Quantico Sentry regularly featured stories of fighting in the Pacific and Guam, but it was rare that they would mention CHamorus (or others) by name.
The first article mentions then 14-year-old Vicente Borja Leon Guerrero who was photographed singing to US troops. He would have been born in 1930.
The second article mentions a Cruz family, with children Francisco, Maria, Joan, Jane and Jean who a US Marine gifted dresses to after they helped him when he was struck with dengue fever.
