Do you care about the ko’ko’ and want to know more about how they are doing? Do you think brown tree snakes can swim?

If you want to learn more about both of these interconnected topics come by the Guam Museum next week, Thursday morning, February 5th from 8 – 9 am for a HITA Talk.

In 2010, Ko’ko were introduced to Dåno’ in hopes of protecting them from the threat of the brown tree snake. Since then, the birds have been continuously monitored by Guam Department of Agriculture, Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resource. For this HITA Talk, Lauren Thompson will present some of the insights that have been gained from monitoring the birds to support their reproduction and survival.

Farron “The Guam Guy” Taijeron started with a social media comment about snakes swimming to Dåno’, and turned it into a novel experiment which has challenged our understanding of the brown tree snake. He’ll share his insights from a pilot study with 21 snakes and their swimming behaviors and what this means for the ko’ko’ at Dåno’.

HITA Talks are free and open to the public, if you have any questions please email michael.bevacqua@dca.guam.gov or call 671-989-4455.
