The Guam Museum, a division of the Department of CHamoru Affairs invites you to attend the HITA Lecture Series. The HITA program offers ways to openly discuss and raise awareness about Guam’s “Heritage, Ideas, Traditions and Art” (HITA), but more importantly, Guam’s cultural, socio-political, and environmental work that impact and/or importantly improve our island resources and day-to-day life. This month’s speaker is Mr. Joe

Joe Quinata is currently the Chief Program Officer of the Guam Preservation Trust, a Founding and Board Member of the Asian and Pacific Islanders American in Historic Preservation (APIAHiP), and Chair of the Advisors Group for the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP). Mr. Quinata was recently appointed as an ex-officio Trustee for the National Trust for Historic Preservation representing the National Trust Advisory Group. His career in historic preservation started over 30 years ago when he opened the office of the Guam Preservation Trust, a non-profit, public corporation.

Joe Quinata received the 2011 NTHP Trustee’s Award for Organizational Excellence for
his administration of the Guam Preservation Trust. He was cited an Honorary Architect from the American Institute of Architects, Guam and Micronesia Chapter and a recipient of the Pioneer in Preservation Award honored by APIAHiP.

Joe grew up in the heritage village of Humåtak where he initiated the heritage walking
tour with Humåtak youth as docents to the many historic sites and the coral reef youth
ambassadors learning and caring for the environment ridge to reef. His proud parents are Jesus & Rosabella Quinata and he and his wife Delores are proud parents of their children Lazaro, Xavier, and Samaria.
