This image was featured in the article “Guam: Perch of the China Clippers” which was published in the 1938 issue of National Geographic magazine.
The caption for the article was, “The newly married couple must walk home after the ceremony, which has taken place in the Agaña Cathedral (background). Few girls are married in native dress; a white satin gown with several yards of veil is the proper costume, and the bridegroom must pay for it.”
The Guam Museum is seeking CHamoru wedding memories and mementos for an exhibit set to open January 2025.
