“Ancient Chamorro Warriors” a painting by the late artist and cartoonist Greg Flores. This is one of several depictions from Greg Flores of ancient CHamoru warriors and ancient Guam life that can be found in the Guam Museum’s collection.

The central warrior sports what is known as a “Kepuha-style” haircut, with shaved head, saved for a top-knot and ponytail. In the late 1600s this style of hair was common amongst CHamoru men, according to Spanish accounts.

Although these warriors are carrying spears with stone tips, CHamoru warriors at the time of contact with Europeans were best known to use spears with human bone tips.
