Mount Pagan is one of two volcanoes that make up the island of Pagan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. It is an active volcano that rises 1,870 feet above sea level.

All residents of Pagan were evacuated following the eruption of Mount Pagan in 1981. In the years since there have been continued efforts to return to the island and resettle, especially in light of proposed plans by the US military to use the island of Pagan for training and bombing.

The 1981 eruption of Mount Pagan and the aftermath was famously chronicled by singer Candy Taman in his song “Mount Pagan.”
