Although piña or pineapple is best known for being a delicious fruit to eat, prior to World War II, CHamorus also made use of its fibers for other activities.
Peskådot or fishers used pineapple fiber to make fishing lines and nets. The fiber could also be used for making cloth for clothes. Prior to metal wire being more easily available to the island community, pineapple fiber would also be used to create the string for the locally made musical instrument, the belembaotuyan.
